Adulterous affairs, honor defended, murder, mourning and scandal, all wrapped up into one…or two that is. The tradition of presenting both Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci jointly started in 1893 as the catalyst of verismo opera, an Italian literary movement whose ideals hang on truth and reality. Hoping to show a ‘slice of life’ as ordinary commoners deal with dramatic situations of everyday life, both Mascagni and Leoncavallo achieved this with their rich tales and powerful music. Presented in its original Italian with English supertitles. For more information, click here.
