  Now beginning our landmark fifth season, you’ll find many ways to experience the Touhill, including the return of our series subscriptions, as well as six Contemporary Concerts, available through single ticket purchase or a Choose Your Own package.  Renew or subscribe to Laugh Lines, Opera! Opera!, Swingin’ Sounds, and the Fusion Series. Not only do series subscriptions provide at least a 10% savings on these captivating performances, but they also offer other great benefits like the ability to purchase single tickets to any of our 2007-08 performances at a $2 per ticket savings NOW, instead of August 13!
   
  In addition to the four pre-packaged series, you can create your own package through the “Choose Your Own” series.  Choose four or more performances on the 07-08 Touhill season and receive a $2 per ticket savings, along with other fantastic privileges.

  Czech Opera Prague presents
THE MERRY WIDOW

Since its premiere in 1905, The Merry Widow has charmed audiences throughout the world with its ravishing score and captivating story, filled with elegant ladies, eligible bachelors, parties, merriment, and one woman's decision that will affect the fate of an entire country. Under the artistic direction of Martin Otava, Czech Opera Prague returns to the Touhill for The Merry Widow’s U.S. debut featuring soloists from Prague State Opera and the U.S. Presented in its original German with English supertitles and a full orchestra and chorus.
   
  TEATRO LIRICO d'EUROPA presents
TOSCA

Tosca, arguably Puccini’s most melodramatic opera, is still among the most popular operas presented today, even after being dubbed initially the "shabby little" shocker.  Teatro brings it to life in a production that made the Portland Press Herald exclaim, “The sets and costumes were first rate. Everyone deserved the long standing ovation at the final curtain.”  Presented with a full orchestra and chorus in its original Italian with English supertitles.

THE MIKADO

Britain’s oldest touring opera company, the Carl Rosa Opera Company is known for its authentic production style and outstanding caliber artists. Using the original Gilbert & Sullivan dictation, The Mikado comes to life in a historic recreation as presented at the Savoy in 1885.

St. Louis couldn’t get enough of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, filling four houses at the Touhill in two previous visits!  Inspiring nostalgic memories of a bygone era through many of the original Miller arrangements including Moonlight Serenade and String of Pearls, the orchestra opens a portal to the past, evoking the spirit of Miller who loved nothing more than great music.

Honoring Maynard Ferguson’s 80th birthday, one of the greatest jazz trumpeters the world has ever known, former Ferguson band members from around the globe join together to pay tribute as the Maynard Ferguson Alumni Big Band. The concert will showcase music from Ferguson’s different eras, from the 50’s Birdland Dream Band to the latest Big Bop Nouveau Band, featuring his chart-topping favorites such as MacArthur Park, Gonna Fly Now (Theme from Rocky), and much more!

  AN AFTERNOON OF BLUEGRASS
with Edgar Meyer and Mike Marshall, David Robertson and members of the SLSO
Sunday, Dec. 2, 2 p.m.

Double bass virtuoso, composer and MacArthur Fellow, Edgar Meyer and mandolin, guitar and violin master Mike Marshall are the featured artists in this concert that touches on the bluegrass traditions and then finds where those traditions may go. Members of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra rosin up their bows and heat up a winter afternoon.
   
  DISCOVER MESSIAEN’S TURANGALILA SYMPHONY

Olivier Messiaen drew from sources as far-flung as South-East Asia and Ancient Greece.  Starting with visual as well as musical examples, David Robertson and the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra will explore the inspiration behind the Turangalila Symphony, followed by a full performance of the work.

What is percussion? At the previous two SLSO Percussion Festivals it has meant the sound of an airplane propeller, the music of sheet metal, tin cans and dog toys. In this season’s Explosions, David Robertson, SLSO percussionists, and the African percussion and dance troupe Afriky Lolo expand even further the definitions of percussion, and so doing make unforgettable music.
